Welcome to the Isle of Swaps, I hope you've got your sunglasses, it's a wonderful day! Isle of Swaps is in the Steam Next Fest, so as a first time player, how about some tips to get you started? In short, Isle of Swaps is a roguelite deckbuilder. You'll gain cards which go in your binder, then you'll make a battle deck that you can change at anytime. If you want new cards you'll need to swap for them from other characters when you beat them in a Critter Battle. A battle deck is made up of 3 types of cards:
Critter Cards
The stars of the show, you can start with either Hangolin, Wallablaze or Aguatto. Who will you choose? When deckbuilding, you can use 1-3 Critters to battle with. Each Critter is from 1 of 6 types, and those types all have unique abilities so it's going to be a tough choice choosing which types to use. Along with a type, each Critter can have a weakness and resistance which will make it take more or less damage from other Critters. You also need to keep an eye on their stats too as those will affect the Skill cards they use. Each Critter in your deck means you need to add 6 Skill cards but it doesnt have to be 6 Skill cards per Critter. You can have 11 Skill cards of Type A and 1 of Type B. Deckbuild your way! Skill cards also have types, and they can only be used of Critters of the same element. Finally Skill cards will use the Critter's stats to modify it when it's played. Flame Tackle does Power + 9 damage, so the final damage will be your Critters Power stat +9! Put some in your deck to power up your Critters as the challenge gets tougher. Each Sticker has a Sticker Point value, and your maximum SP will reduce when you use stronger uncommon and rare Critters. Each time you defeat someone you'll get to swap with them and see what cards they have. You'll choose some cards with the overall Swap Value increasing with each one, then you'll offer spare cards from your binder to meet that Swap Value. Remember how when you wanted to trade you had to trade an uncommon for 1 uncommon or 2 commons? It's just like that!
Get involved!
With all this knowledge in mind, just get out there! No better way to learn than getting stuck in, choosing your first starter Critter and then taking on the playground to be the champion! I'll be streaming playthroughs of the game 2 times this week, be sure to tune in Live and we can chat as I play.
