This update adds a new targeting mechanic to the game - the "Smart Boresight". You can enable this targeting mode via the targeting pods MFD using Modifier 1 plus MFD Button 6. You can also setup a key binding for it in the Control Settings menu called "Toggle Smart Boresight". When in this mode the targeting pod will display the targeting square, the LASER notification as well as a new SMART BORE notification just below. The system works by checking for any objects along a 3km path from the centre of the current camera view. If an object is detected (e.g. terrain) then the targeting system will scan for any targets within a 100m radius of that point. The target closest to that point is then automatically locked up. In practice this means you just point the camera near a target and the targeting pod will snap to it. The system is smart enough to know if a target is dead or not and will switch to the next available target if one is available making strafing runs much easier as there is no need to slew the targeting pod manually. This system is basically simulating having a Co-pilot making sensible decisions on what target your are probably after and will form the basis of the Auto-Targeting mode which will allow you to hand off turret control to your gunner's A.I. completely. The Smart Boresight also works in a similar way to IHADSS but without the overlay and I will upgrade the IHADSS system to use this same "snapping" system to allow more easy targeting but with a narrower scanning radius. Other Updates 1. Overhaul of the targeting cameras logic to make the Smart Bore system work. This also allowed me to make some tweaks which hopefully should prevent the weird issue of the targeting pod getting locked into the top corner of its gimbal limits sometimes. 2. All locked targets are now automatically re-acquired after going outside the gimbal limits whereas before only Radar locked targets would do this. 3. Selected Pilot/Co-pilots in the Mission Planning phase are now remembered even after restarting the game. 4. If you select a Default pilot or co-pilot then you will get a warning message before starting the mission advising you to choose a custom pilot (you don't have to though). Meaningful Update This week's meaningful update was supposed to include the Su-25 and stingers. Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to complete those in time so instead, and to compliment the Smart Boresight, I'll be adding in the APKWS (and probably the DAGR) weapon systems which should open up even more options on how you tackle missions. If I have time I will also be adding the vertical aim system to the existing Hydra 70 pods.
