Developer Update Week 21

Hey everyone,
I’ve been hard at work preparing our game for submission to Steam for Early Access. Yes, Early Access is almost here!
A wee sneak peak at the trailer, still lots to be done, but some combat, more on that later.

I’ve been focusing on creating a stable build of the game, fixing various bugs, including the issue with the start screen widget not showing in the build version. I also spent an afternoon optimizing textures, reducing draw calls, and implementing mipmaps for texture streaming. This ensures that textures are lower resolution at a distance while maintaining detail up close—a pretty satisfying task!
In addition, I have a couple of essays coming your way about the use of AI and what it means to me. Stay tuned for those.
Combat System Updates
I've been polishing the combat system, making it more fluid and intuitive. It’s starting to feel much better, though there are still a few tweaks needed. Overall, I’m pleased with the progress.
What's Coming Next Week?
The trailer, which I hope you've seen, is my main focus right now. There’s a lot going into it, including scenes with Mrs. McGreggor, movie-like sequences, and in-game cutscenes. I’m working on ways to clearly indicate what’s cinematic and what’s actual gameplay footage.
The next big task is the Quest and Dialogue system. They’re functioning well, but adding more quests is a top priority. The quest lines for Early Access are nearly complete, but adding voice acting in the given timeframe is challenging. Initially, some quests will be text-based, allowing me to spend time recording voice lines and setting up cutscenes. These will be included in one of the first updates.
So, quest lines are the next big thing. There’s a lot done but still plenty to go. I’ll be working on that while also dedicating time to the trailer and some gameplay videos. Hope this keeps you up to date on what I’m doing.
Thanks for your support!
Cheers,
