Happy Friday everyone!
Today, we reached our first milestone of Early Access: It’s the multiplayer modes update!
We added two game modes to multiplayer, the automatic races and speed building. Unfortunately, the keep the flag mode isn’t ready yet, because we started working on improving the building editor last week as well, since we think that is something important we want to add to the game earlier than planned. So you can expect some building editor improvements in the coming weeks.
Let us know what you think about the update, as always please share your thoughts and feedback with us. Of course we have even more plans for multiplayer, and there is so much more to come in the future, as well as improvements to hosting your own servers, we also haven’t forgotten about that ;D
Cheers guys, and here are the patchnotes of v0.3.11.1:
Multiplayer

We created two game modes for multiplayer: Automatic races, and Speed Building

In Automatic races, as the name suggests, the server will automatically start random races. Players can then participate in the races and gain points for beating the other players. After five rounds, a winner is crowned and a new cycle of five random races starts

In Speed Building, the server selects a random race, and a random set of rules. Then all players have 20 minutes time to build a car that satisfies these rules to participate in the race

Apart from the two new game modes, we also added the possibility to define your own set of rules. As the server host, you can define and configure custom rules for the vehicle weight, power, acceleration and so on. This way, you can create your very own rules for your server
Major Changes

We added optional challenges to the game. These are challenges which are invisible, until you beat the secret queen. Then the optional challenges will appear and can be driven to climb the leaderboards, or to be driven in multiplayer

We added three fighting arenas to the Supersonic map. These can be used to play some fighting PVP in multiplayer
Minor Changes

If you restart a challenge, the loading time should be greatly reduced, because the game now caches the ghost race data of the last driven challenge

You can now color the carbon wings properly as well

You can now switch back to the old camera movement in the building editor in the general settings (Instead of only being accessible through the F9 key)

Engines now actually have colliders. Gears still have no colliders tho, so you don’t have to worry about them touching the ground

Tech Tree can be toggled with the right stick on controller

Reduced the hit box of the small dirt wheel, since it was bigger than the hit box of the wider dirt wheel. This is the hit box when building, so it should be possible to build closer to the small dirt wheel now.

Added new building part: Beam x4

Added two new experimental camera modes: Orbit, and free orbit

Added an FPS limit of 100 to the graphics settings menu

Reduced the weight of the corner gear from 6kg to 4kg

We fixed the calculation of the center of mass for a lot of parts. In big combustion engines for example, the center of mass was offset to the side. This should now be fixed for most parts

We further improved the performance of the game especially in multiplayer. Mainly we decreased the physics tick-rate, which has been pretty high so far.. With the new physics tick-rate, the physics behavior should not have changed by much, but at the same time the game should run more smoothly, especially with many cars in multiplayer.
Bug Fixes

We re-simulated all destructible objects in the game. During our heavy optimization a month ago, we made some of the destructibles behave weirdly. Now most of them should behave correctly again when driven into

Fixed a potential issue, where it wasn’t possible to navigate the garage menu with controller.

Renaming a car category in the garage was assigned to the ‘A’ button on controller. This has been fixed, and it is now the left stick

Fixed a rare bug, which caused the garage to crash and not show any cars anymore.

When making wheels steerable, they sometimes rotated upside-down instead of left-right. This should now be fixed

Fixed wrongly configured weight for unlocking the deco lasercut part in the tech tree career

We fixed the mini map on the Supersonic map. The map there was only a placeholder and not an actual mini map. Now it should actually represent the map properly.
Drive safe, friends. And have a relaxing weekend!
