Hi all, Its been a while since I last posted. I was pretty caught up with life and what have you. In the meantime I have changed the following: Lore: ==== - Mercenary faction is now known as the Renegade faction. - Renegade faction is now known as the X.Z faction. To put it quite simple. While the story used to revolve around the X.Z. It seems to be wiser to base it on the humans who go against the law/will of those "above" them. While machines might be able to think for themselves in the future, for now, this isn't the case ;). The need to create a secondary Skynet was just a bit too much. Gamemode: Coop ============== As mentioned in an earlier post, the groundwork for coop modes was under development at the time. Today I'm happy to announce the very first coop game mode has been finished (albeit in alpha stage) and can be enjoyed. However for balance sake, I ensured only the Renegade faction can play the mode (for the moment). For instance, the Renegade faction can supply each other with ammo, health and what have you. Whereas the X.Z faction feels incomplete in that regard. Not that the X.Z faction cannot hold their own in the other game modes however when it comes down to utility they're significantly lacking. Whereas the Renegade faction shines. Keeping this factor in mind. The X.Z faction isn't "mature" (Not enough weapon diversity, not enough utility, balance changes, etc) enough to have their own gamemode against the horde and or even be able to be selectable as an ally as their firepower is just to save their own caboose. However in the future I foresee giving them their own (balanced) tools which allows them to either have their own coop mode and or even PvPvE mode ;). Gamemode: Deathmatch =================== Due to the nature of the template I am using. I have to rewrite a large portion of the way this game works. This game mode isn't any different. As it stands it uses team 0 (Renegade) and team 1 (X.Z) as an integer. Which is hard coded into it and it blows. Originally the template doesn't support what I am doing (including the Horde mode). Much like the Horde mode I have to try making this work through trial and error. While it isn't scrapped, the Deathmatch mode will see a delay for the time being. UI: == - Added a PvP/Coop selection widget after pressing "create game". (WIP) - In PvP mode it is now possible to select the following mode and corresponding maps; Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag and Conquest. (WIP) - In Coop mode it is likewise possible to select corresponding maps part of the game mode horde (WIP) - In Coop mode it isn't possible to; alter if the game is with bots yes or no (which means the alteration of how many Mercenary or X.Z bots has been removed too), the time limit (counts upwards instead), fraglimit (pointless as it isn't based on x amount of frags). - In Coop mode, slots are limited to 8 players. Initially I wanted to limit to 5 to put emphasize on the importance of selecting your class. I will be observing the player amount required for this mode for the sake of balance. - The rules of Coop mode? Quite simple. Handle 15 waves and if one of you dies, it is game over. It is that simple really. Gameplay: Admin tools ================== - It is now possible for the host to restart the map at will, however I'm looking into limiting this capability being available after 5 minutes of starting the game. I will be observing for any abuse reports. While I applaud freedom, I didn't implement this feature for people to abuse it. - It is now possible to kick users from your game via the escape menu. Do note they will be able to rejoin and continue whatever practice you booted them for. Regardless you have no way of banning them at this time, unless you acquire his/her IP and you know ... Do firewall "magic". If the admin fails to select anything to his/her desire, the same map with the same mode will restart. Us older guys enjoy that! (Actually thinking of implementing a sprint toggle like Star Wars BF2 -Double tap W for sprint). Final words ========= While I'm very passionate about Renegade, it simply isn't sustainable to crank out new content over and over as a sole developer. The base is "done" and without any feedback, this is where it will (probably) remain in terms of expansion. Sure I will add a new gun/utility or two for the X.Z faction, some new colors for some skins, some sounds here and there. But things like an SP campaign, voice acting, or what have you. That's unfortunately out of the window. Is there something or someone held accountable? Myself of course! I didn't invest as much time marketing this thing and the alpha had a really, really, really bad start. - People were flaming it left and right for the lack of a trailer. - Former co developers who sacked the project the moment they realized it wasn't some get quick rich scheme. - Lack of funding from something like a studio/publisher. - Simply not my main profession, thus rendering this a hobby/amateur project. So given the aforementioned, I will provide the Deathmatch/PvPvE mode and that's where it is likely to stop in terms of expansion. I am lucky that I came as far as I did and I'm every so grateful that I was able to translate my passion into this project. Support will continue, yet, without enough donations/feedback support it simply won't progress as fast as folks would want it from me. Patch alpha 4.0 will drop very shortly and I hope you enjoy the game just as much as I enjoyed making it. Kind regards, Cet
