Hey everyone!
Following up on our last update, the team has been working on the first patch for SunnySide with a major focus on performance and optimisation. We also managed to squash a few bugs in between the optimisation efforts. Here’s what’s new:
Optimization and Increased Performance
We adjusted the loading volumes for interior levels as well as how quickly and granularly they load as you navigate the world. Some pesky trees received new billboards (so trees in the distance load better now, and we grouped up a ton of models (called “instancing”) in each house and interior so that they’re loaded quicker as you play the game. All this should me less stuttering when the game loads various interior maps as you run around the world.
Nvidia DLSS Can now be adjusted in your Graphics Settings
Nvidia DLSS is a great tool to achieve some frame rate boost quickly and easily, if you have a graphics card that supports DLSS (Nvidia) the settings option will be available to you. We know a lot of our players do not have an Nvidia card, for which we are looking at implementing FSR for AMD users in a future update.(We don’t have an AMD development computer, so this one takes a little more time.)
Strange NPC Behavior
We had a pesky bug that made it into the release which caused NPCs to decide incorrectly that a station was free and would try to use it. This caused many NPCs to either merge into each other or awkwardly sit on each others’ lap. Whilst funny, our NPCs deserve better! We implemented a few safeguards that triple check this now. NPCs should also now be nudged outside of stationery items they could clip into, like tables and chairs. This system is not in its final form yet and we will continue to polish it as we work on more updates, but the fundamentals are now in place. We are also aware of the localization issues in Asian languages and currently working to get this fixed.
Those were the big ones, but in addition, we have also done the following:

Your graphics settings should no longer reset on each start-up.
Fixed an incorrect dialogue string on Hanako's confession response.
Game settings adjusted and rebalanced. Low and Medium settings should look and work better now.
Removed a few developer activities that were available in the game (drone racing at the promenade).
Using the scroll wheel during a drone race should no longer cause problems.
AMD GPUs should perform a lot more reliably in the caves now, and the performance is much better across all hardware.
Improvements to Farmer's Market, including more reliable payouts and animal pen navigation fixes.
Fixed a typo on the bus stop map details panel.
Kat should no longer ask to "let Rainy know" in her daily dialogue.
The rice cooker can no longer be turned on if there is no valid recipe in the mixing circle. This fixes the issue of the rice cooker “getting stuck closed” if you try to turn it on without a valid recipe.
You can no longer close the Omamori receiving window by pressing the “Esc” button causing it to get stuck on the screen.
Minigames that are launched through a hangout (such as Crane Game or Gatcha Game) now show the on-screen prompt for how to play the minigame. The lack of a prompt confused some players into thinking that the game was soft-locked.
Your character should now behave normally when getting on the bicycle if they had accepted a hangout while riding the bicycle previously. No more hands on the side while riding the bicycle, safety is important people!
You can no longer accidentally destroy your bicycle rack or vehicle shed. If you have already destroyed them accidentally in your save, we're working on a way to allow you to re-place them.
Please ensure that your version number in the main menu and pause menu says 1.15.15-Full otherwise you are still on an older version. Sometimes it takes Steam a little while to push the update to everyone, but you can force it by restarting Steam from your system tray or task manager. If you’re using the deck, restarting the system should prompt it as well. Thank you so much for continuing to play SunnySide and we hope you’re enjoying your time. SunnySide can be a pretty big game, so if you’re thinking of sharing your experience with other players, you can join our discord server here! There are tons of channels including sharing your farm, streaming your game and generally helping each other out with different aspects of the game!
This is just the start for SunnySide’s post-launch support.
We have tons more updates planned and optimisation work continues. The team has also just received a Steam Deck which means we are going to work on a dedicated “Deck Mode” with catered settings just for the Deck, to ensure the game is running as smoothly as it can on that hardware. If you’re enjoying SunnySide, please let us know by leaving a review for the game. We are eager to know how you all are spending your time in SunnySide. That’s it for this update, from myself (Rainy) and the team at RainyGames and Merge Games, thank you all for playing SunnySide and we’ll see you in the next update!
