Mechanophagia is a bullet hell with roguelite elements where you play as Tetsuo, a brave robot who must defend his city from the attack of an alien species that feeds on machines. This horde of metal-eating aliens is known among robots as mechanophages. Born of flesh in a world dominated by metal, the mechanophages are flesh-and-blood beings who decided to leave their carnivorous nature behind and consume machines to transcend their bodies' natural limits. Since food was scarce in their environment and nuclear energy was abundant, they saw in machines a tempting possibility to obtain the energy necessary to survive. A forced symbiosis with various machines allowed them to metabolize nuclear energy, but amid the frenzy, they destroyed their own means of production. Now they roam the galaxy looking for synthetic life forms that have advanced enough in the production of nuclear fusion energy to feed on them. The idea for the world of Mechanophagia was born mainly from this idea of grotesque beings that feed on machines. "Tetsuo: The Iron Man" our most direct inspiration, we wanted to imagine what the opposite would be like; instead of the machine consuming the flesh, the flesh consuming the machine. Another big inspiration was Akira, its neon city, and, mainly that scene where the power consumes Tetsuo and he becomes a grotesque mass of flesh and wires. We want to bring some elements of body horror seen from the perspective of a robot, and thus achieve an aesthetic that is both captivating and a bit distressing.
