Generally speaking, I tend to stay away from mods for brand new games. In part it's because I want to experience the game exactly as it was when it left its creators' tender, loving hands, but I'd be lying if I said that "I can't be bothered getting under the hood" isn't a big consideration too. That said, I suspect that the "Full Dialogue Interface" mod that was recently released for Fallout 4 is one I'm going to grab immediately.

Unlike Bethesda's previous Fallout games, conversations in Fallout 4 involve choosing a brief paraphrase or tone of response, and then letting the chips fall where they may. That's fine as far as it goes, but it can lead to some unintended flubs, or worse, missing out on opportunities to be an oh-so-clever Wasteland wit.

The Full Dialogue Interface mod eliminates that uncertainty by reverting the conversation system to the Fallout 3/New Vegas style. When it's installed, each line of conversation is displayed in full when you're talking with NPCs, so there's no doubt about what you're going to say. It also simplifies the process by changing how the options are listed and accepting number keys for inputs.

The mod will take a little of horsing around to install—extract the archive to the Fallout4\Data folder, mess with the .INI file a bit—but it's nothing you won't be comfortable with if you've installed mods previously. And if you happen to prefer your dialog choices in a more gamepad-friendly format, a "lite" version of the mod is also available that will leave them in their original "ABXY" layout.

The Fallout 4 Full Dialogue Interface mod is available at the Fallout 4 Nexus. And since mods are clearly your thing, be sure to have a look at our list of other outstanding Fallout 4 mods right here.

Thanks, Polygon.
