Happy Earth Appreciation Day, dear Guardians! On this special occasion we celebrate nature both on the ground and underwater! We are thrilled to be part of the Earth Appreciation Fest on Steam among many games that put nature at the heart of their story. And even bigger news, we have an official release date: June 20th! Dive into Crab God's realm with this exclusive gameplay video: [previewyoutube=muyNGK5NifQ;full][/previewyoutube] To make you experience your own aquatic journey to the fullest, we could never have found a better muse than nature itself. Our team has always loved coral reef ecosystems. To us, it feels like the perfect setting for a video game filled with weird and wonderful creatures! We had so many options but limited time so we needed to focus. We picked creatures that were beautiful, bizarre, mechanically important, and then just a few of our favourites!
Inspiration for Creatures
Our favorite "bizarre" fishes are the Angler Fish with its glowing light that it uses to attract preys, or the Cleaner wrasse that swims into predator's mouths to clean parasites. The mitten crabs (one of the in-game threats you face) also fall into this list and the name pretty much says it all; they are crabs, with mittens! The butterfly fish and surgeon fish are both striking and beautiful. Easy picks! We just had to put both of them in the game! The giant grouper is a huge (they can grow up to 2.7m or 9 feet) and interesting fish that naturally preys on some of the threats in the game. What we typically think of as a coral is actually made up of thousands of tiny animals called polyps. A coral polyp is an invertebrate that can be as small as a pinhead or as large as a basketball! When choosing plants and corals, we wanted to ensure there was a diverse range from many different ocean depths, and wanted to ensure that they were visually appealing. The stalked jellyfish is one of the deep sea corals that we knew we had to include due to its striking alien appearance. We knew that we had to include anemones due to their symbiotic relationship with clownfishes. Enjoy the event on Steam and we will come back with more news in the upcoming days! - The Crab God team -
