The Electro-Motive GP30 is certainly one of America’s most distinctive and, among train-watches, admired diesel road-switchers. And the GP30 has also proven an extraordinarily successful locomotive, serving throughout the U. S. for more than half-a-century!
Introduced in 1961 and constructed through 1963, nearly 1,000 of the 2,250-horsepower, four-axle (B-B) GP30s were built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. With a memorable one-of-a-kind external styling created by General Motors’ legendary Automotive Styling Center, the GP30 was unmistakable in appearance and the versatile locomotive went to work for a virtual “who’s who” of America’s railroads, including the Pennsylvania, New York Central, Baltimore & Ohio, Southern Railway, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific.
Among the more than two dozen U. S. railroads which originally purchased the GP30 were western giant Southern Pacific and its subsidiary, the St. Louis Southwestern (nicknamed the “Cotton Belt”). Masterfully created by DTM, the remarkable Train Simulator GP30 now is available in Southern Pacific’s and Cotton Belt’s famed “scarlet and gray” livery. The GP30 features highly authentic controls and operating features, as well as details specific to the Southern Pacific/Cotton Belt locomotives including distinctive front- and rear lights.
The Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt GP30 is well-suited for use on several Train Simulator routes including the popular Donner Pass: Southern Pacific route (available separately).
Please Note: The Union Pacific GP30 Loco Add-On is required, as a separate purchase, in order to use the content featured in this “Marketplace” add-on.
