Welcome to the Austrian Alps, traverse challenging terrain and embark on unique journeys with RSSLO’s Tauernbahn for Train Simulator.
The Tauernbahn is one of the most important north-south trunk routes in Europe, carrying freight, local passenger and tourists through the Central Eastern Alps. The line tackles gradients as steep as 2.5% and burrows through the mountains through the 8km long Tauern tunnel.
Following the opening of the Suez Canal, there was a desire to create a similar link between the Austrian seaport at Trieste with the Bohemian coalfields. However, instead of a water channel, the vision was for a rail connection through the Alps. Construction took place between 1901 and 1909, sections such as the Tauern tunnel were double tracked, with other sections of the pass only being single.
The line still remains in use to this day, served by a series of passenger trains, including a motorail service, as well as freight. Experience the variety of operations and take in the Alpine scenery with RSSLO’s Tauernbahn for Train Simulator!
