What is this game about?

Inspired by classic SNES and Amiga titles, Tiny Thor is a 16-bit platformer with all the emphasis on movement and jumping puzzles that one would expect, but you attack enemies by throwing Tiny’s hammer, Mjölnir. The hammer ricochets across the screen, bouncing off enemies, walls, and numerous environmental objects, sometimes even feeling a bit like Arkanoid or Breakout. Using guide lines to help you, you can throw the hammer at precise angles to achieve trick shots that, for example, hit a shielded enemy from behind or solve a physics puzzle. The entire game has been artfully designed — and redesigned — around this mechanic.

About the demo?

This is the first public demo we released to the world. It contains the first 3 levels. The content may change for the final game because we want to use the feedback we get to further improve on the game. If you have any feedback or suggestions please join our Discordand let us konw.

Who are you?

I'm Jochen, an indie game developer from Germany. I wanted to do to a 2D platform game since I was a child. Back then two of my idols were Chris Hülsbeck, who did the music to Turrican, and Henk Nieborg, who did the art for games like Lionheart, Ambermoon, Flink and Lomax (later he did art for Contra and Shantae).

My child-fantasy has always been to do a game together with them. When Tiny Thor started as a small 48-hour game jam project, it was really just a small, at best average platform game. I really liked the basic premise of the game, but really haven’t pushed it further.

One day Henk did a mockup of the game which just blew me away. I tried to get him on-board together with Chris and when they agreed I knew this is probably a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fulfill my child’s fantasy – so I basically started the game from scratch and since then it really became a labour of love.
