Ahoy, Skippers!
We’re excited to announce the reworked sonar system in our upcoming v0.7.5 update for Ships At Sea. While sonar was introduced in our EA version, we’ve revamped it and added new features to enhance your maritime adventures.
For the first time in any of our games, we’re introducing multiple sonar modes to add even more depth and realism to your maritime adventures. This system is designed to elevate the process of locating and identifying fish, making your fishing expeditions feel more authentic and immersive.
Sonar Modes
Our reworked sonar system will include three distinct modes:
[olist]
[*]History Sonar: Track fish beneath your vessel
[*]360 Sonar/Area Scan: Provides a full panoramic scan of your surroundings to target school of fish
[*]Forward Sonar: A forward-facing sonar for detecting fish and obstacles ahead of your vessel
[/olist]
In today´s spotlight, we will dive deeper into the History Sonar mode, which will be available on Tier 1 and 2 boats, perfect for longline and net fishing. The 360 Sonar and Forward Sonar will be exclusive to Tier 3 fishing vessel, following with the update v0.8, making them invaluable tools for Purse Seine fishing technique.
History Sonar Features
The History Sonar display provides vital information to help you navigate and locate fish with precision. Here´s what you will see on the sonar screen:

[*]Max Depth: Displays the total depth being scanned. You can adjust the total depth being scanned to focus on specific areas, helping you target the most relevant zones for fish detection.
[*]Water Surface: The very top of the display represents the water's surface, helping you orient yourself as you track fish activity.
[*]Seabed: This shows the precise location of the seabed, which is crucial for understanding the topography beneath your vessel.
[*]Fish Zones: The most critical part of the display indicates the area where fish are commonly found. This zone is located between the water surface and just above the seabed.
