Wolverhampton Wanderers has become the first Premier League football team to enter the Rocket League Championship Series with their esports team, Wolves Esports. The organisation also competes in games such as PUBG, FIFA 21 and FIFA Online 4, but has now decided to expand into a Rocket League scene that a handful of football clubs have ventured into before.
The new team features three players: team captain Rix Ronday who joins from Libertas, Luis 'LuiisP' Peña from Edelweiss Esports, and Ole 'Oaly' Van Doorn from Barrage Esports. The team is set to compete in the RLCS X Winter Split which will begin on November 12 08:00 PST or 16:00 GMT.
In the announcement, Wolves general manager for marketing and commercial growth, Russell Jones, says "Signing such talented and ambitious players to represent our Rocket League esports team is another step forward in our journey to build stories outside of football and widen the appeal of the Wolves brand across the world." Wolves aren't the first football club to dip a toe into Rocket League, with the likes of AS Monaco and Barcelona having fielded teams.
