Hello Everyone! Back in 1990, at Dynamix, we built Red Baron. Our goal was to make something more than a game, more than a “flight sim” -- a time machine so that players could experience history. Getting flight characteristics was important, but equally important was to model the personalities and flying styles of the famous aces of the war. Likewise, we wanted to present a deep and accurate history of the war. For example, aircraft introduced in the player’s campaign reflect the actual experience of the pilots in WWI. In April of 1917, the Germans introduced the technologically superior Albatros D.I and D.II, armed with twin machine guns. As a player in the campaign playing a British pilot, this is a really challenging period - just as it was for the real pilots. Playing a German pilot, this is an exciting time because you get to fly an aircraft that is vastly superior to anything your adversaries have. After Red Baron, the Aces team, as we called ourselves, went on to release Aces of the Pacific and Aces Over Europe. Then it was time for a sequel to Red Baron. Red Baron 3D (originally released as Red Baron II, and after a major upgrade, renamed Red Baron 3D) carried all the core values of the original, but included a more comprehensive campaign, multiplayer, a higher fidelity flight model, and of course modern graphics (for the time). Both Red Baron and Red Baron 3D went on to become both commercial and critical successes, and to this day remain the most highly regarded WWI flight sims. Newer games have since been released with modern graphics, but the level of historical depth in Red Baron remains unmatched. When we left Dynamix, we never expected to be involved with the product again. In 2008, I was working with a new publisher, and out of the blue, suddenly, unexpectedly, I was offered the chance to acquire all the rights to Red Baron. What a strange twist of cosmic karma. We had completely let go of Red Baron when leaving Dynamix. Then, like some crazy boomerang, Red Baron came flying back -- a boomerang in the shape of a red fokker triplane. Well, that's the story of why we are now able to bring classic Red Baron and Red Baron 3D to all of you here on Steam. I hope you enjoy them. Tally Ho!
