Whilst playtest feedback has been trickling in, I decided to work on some essential non-core gameplay tasks.
Ship Art Created
The Reddit community seemed to have enjoyed this update. As the hero asset of the game, these ships needed to stand out (literally for design purposes). The multi-faceted sails help identify the colour of the player's traveller from any orientation.
Localisation
Supporting localisation in all 12 languages needed to happen to allow the world to play the game equally for the demo. Neither the framework nor data were implemented, so I went ahead and set all that up, from in-game buttons to merchants and settlements.
Settings
Potentially a less stimulating aspect of news, but it's essential in any game. A game with settings/options or without accessibility is expected, even to a demo level. Some feedback was to accommodate a matrix of controls for KBM / Joypad, and now that has been implemented. Audio will be fully implemented when I do the audio pass.
Capsule Art
So long to the prehistoric, questionably jungle toon-styled capsule art. This has refined the game to say "Yes, I'm a trading/economy game with ships in", whilst appealing more to a maturer target audience (hey there, you!)
Playtest Feedback
The results are in! Thank you to everyone who filled in the feedback form. Here are some broad takeaways: [olist] [*] People want a single-player mode... a lot. [*] Input support for KBM isn't there in-game (it's on the todo list) [*] The game is too easy in its current state. [*] There is a lot of potential for high replayability. [*] More depth is needed around "things to do and strategy". [*] People liked the art style. [/olist] I will be leaving the playtest build live for now, likely until the demo is up. The form will remain open in case you want to leave your two cents there too.
