Considering how successful Age of Empires I & II's Definitive Editions have been, it was only a matter of time before Age of Empires 3 received its own Definitive Edition (and, thankfully, it never received an original HD edition so this isn't a re-re-release).
This and Age of Empires 4 has been at the forefront of our minds in terms of what the franchise has to offer this year, and the release date for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition has just been announced: October 15th, 2020.
The reveal was announced during the GamesCom Opening Night Live show, which is kicking off the new digital-only event that would have taken place in Cologne.
Here's the trailer that came with the announcement:
The game is available now for pre-order via Steam or the Microsoft Store. It's also coming to Games Pass for PC. Age of Empires 3: DE is also coming with new content in the form of new game modes - Historical Battles and Art of War Challenges. It will also come with the Inca and Swedish civilisations as new additions along with the usual run of new graphics and improved audio you'd expect from a HD re-release.
